This is one end of the very popular Highline Trail, a hike that is most commonly started at Logan Pass and completed at The Loop. Much of the Highline Trail is exposed, which means there is a higher risk of falling, and a higher risk of being negatively impacted by inclement weather.
Along the way, there are optional offshoots to Grinnell Glacier Overlook, Swiftcurrent Lookout, and Granite Park Chalet, which alter the distance and elevation changes listed below. If you're looking to do a shorter hike, stopping and returning to the Logan Pass parking lot after a set amount of time is a good option.
If you plan to park at one trailhead and finish at the other, hiking the Highline comes with added logistical challenges. Additional research is recommended.
Highline
Distance: 11.8 miles (19 km), one way
Elevation gain: 2,388 ft (728 m)
Elevation loss: 4,773 ft (1,455 m)
Trailhead: Across Going-to-the-Sun Road from the Continental Divide sign near the Logan Pass parking lot.
While in Glacier National Park, please maintain extra awareness around water, steep dropoffs, and wildlife. You are responsible for your own safety.
