Hewlett Field is located next to the Chattahoochee River in the Island Ford Unit in Sandy Spring, Georgia. The field with its shaded picnic area is one of the more heavily used areas on a nice day in Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
The field accessed by walking down a moderately steep paved walkway behind the Historic Hewlett Lodge. Picnic tables and grills are located just in the woods next to the large field. The restroom facility in the lodge is accessible only during regular visitor center hours, 9 a,m to 5 p.m. daily. Potable water is available in the lodge and outside. Electrical service is not available. The field and picnic area can accommodate approximately 250 people.
The parking lots near the lodge will accommodate up to 63 vehicles. There are 5 ADA-designated parking spaces.
The boat launch located at the end of the field gets heavy use during the week in the summer and on weekends year around by tubers and paddlers. There is road access to the field resulting in tubers and paddlers carrying their gear through the field. This road can also be used to drop off equipment for an event.
