Situated at 2,524 feet above sea level, Harvey’s Knob Overlook offers expansive views of the Great Valley of Virginia and its mosaic of forest and farm fields 1,400 feet below. Mountains more than 30 miles distant can be seen on most days, and stargazers will be treated with a view of thousands of stars on clear nights.

Located on the narrow ridge top, Harvey’s Knob Overlook provides excellent views to either side of the ridgeline, making migrating raptors and monarch butterflies easy to observe during their fall migration (August through November). Two wayside exhibits highlight the types of hawks migrating along this mountain flyway.

Hikers can access the Appalachian National Scenic Trail as it passes through the overlook.
