Graw Alley Art Park, part of the developing Harmer’s Town Art Center, is a vibrant outdoor space in the heart of Havre de Grace where history and art come together. What began as a community effort to brighten a neglected alley has grown into a landscaped one-acre park filled with murals, sculptures, and creative gathering spaces. Nearly 40 large murals trace the city’s past, telling stories of the indigenous people who lived along the Upper Bay, horse racing at the famed Graw racetrack, Havre de Grace’s role in the War of 1812, the Underground Railroad, the 1913 Women’s Suffrage March, and the city’s reputation as “Little Chicago” during the Prohibition era.

Life-size horse sculptures by Chesapeake artist Aaron Paskins honor legendary thoroughbreds that raced at the Graw, including Seabiscuit, Man o‘ War, and Citation. The park also features garage studios, performance areas, and seating surrounded by native plantings chosen to complement the art. Visitors may encounter community programs, youth art exhibits, or the lively Graw Alley Art Parties that showcase music, vendors, and interactive demonstrations.

As the first phase of the Harmer’s Town Art Center, Graw Alley provides an open-air experience that celebrates heritage, creativity, and community connection at the head of the Susquehanna River, where it meets the Chesapeake Bay.
