Located on Chicago’s north side, Graceland Cemetery is one of the city’s most well-known cemeteries, and contains the grave of George Pullman. Pullman died of a heart attack on October 19, 1897 at the age of 66. As with other prominent Chicagoans of his time, Pullman was laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery. The Pullman marker simple yet elegant, a single Corinthian column.

Founded in 1860, Graceland was a part of the Victorian movement to make cemeteries parklike places for public enjoyment. This contrasted the crowded markers and lack of landscaping typically found in city graveyards. Graceland is a hidden gem--a treasury of Chicago’s history, art, architecture and famous people. The final resting places of department-store magnate Marshall Field, architects Daniel Burnham and Louis Sullivan, detective Allan Pinkerton can be found here.
