Built in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Gobblers Knob Fire Lookout is a historic structure located within the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District. One of the four lookouts remaining in the park, it helped protect the park and surrounding national forests from fire.

Several landmarks ring the horizon in the 360° view from the Gobblers Knob Fire Lookout: Mount St. Helens to the southwest, Goat Rocks to the southeast, the Cascade Range to the north, and Mount Rainier to the northeast.

This historic lookout was used by fire watchers to spot smoke and lightning strikes and report them by telephone. After World II, aerial surveillance became the primary mode of fire-spotting. These lookouts, fully equipped for fire detection, are still used occasionally.

Hike to Gobblers Knob Fire Lookout from the Westside Road gate at Dry Creek to Round Pass and Lake George. The Gobblers Knob Fire Lookout is not open to the public for overnight stays but wilderness campsites are available at nearby Lake George.
