Quick Facts
Location:
Fort Nonsense Hilltop, New Jersey
Significance:
Historic marker
The Washington Association of New Jersey placed this stone marker to commemorate the site of Fort Nonsense. Then, as now, local residents knew the historic nature of Morristown extended beyond the bounds of Jockey Hollow and the Ford Mansion. While Fort Nonsense never saw any combat and acquired its unusual nickname long after the war's conclusion, its historic nature justified preservation all the same. The Washington Association advocated over the years for the preservation of this scenic vista, and this marker signified their longstanding dedication to this purpose, as well as a reminder that such work can be undertaken by groups of interested and concerned citizens just as well as large institutions.
