Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

Florence Indian Mound Museum in northwest Alabama connects closely with the Trail of Tears by exploring the forced removal of southeastern Native American nations—including Cherokees and Creeks—from Alabama. Situated near historic Cherokee removal routes, the museum is located on a Trail of Tears corridor that passed through Florence along present‑day Highway. Exhibits about the Trail of Tears and Tuscumbia Landing are featured.

Native Americans built the Florence Mound nearly 1700 years ago along the banks of the Tennessee River. The museum at the base of the mound serves as an educational center, bridging cultural practices and bringing people together around a shared sense of humanity.
