Two Armies Collide here on the Pea Ridge Battlefield. The Confederate Army at the Battle of Pea Ridge included many Native American troops. Two regiments of Cherokees, about 1000 men, fought for the Confederate army and routed two companies of Union cavalry. Union cannon fire eventually forced them to take cover in the woods. The Cherokee regiments were held in reserve throughout the remainder of the battle.
