The C&O Canal aqueducts are “water bridges” that carried canal boats over creeks and rivers that flow into the Potomac River. Built from 1838 to 1850, the Fifteenmile Creek Aqueduct is the tenth of twelve such “works of art” on the canal. The structure spans 110 feet and the USGS mark in the southeast corner indicates that the aqueduct in 459 feet above sea level. Cement to construct the aqueduct was from Lynns Mill at Cumberland and Shafers Mill near Hancock.
This area also has camping, a boat ramp, picnic table, and restrooms.
