Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis)

Eastern Redbud is a natural deciduous tree that typically grows to a height of 15 to 30 feet. These trees are known for their magenta pink blossoms, which emerge in the spring to early summer, on bare stems before the leaves.
The name “redbud” reflects the hue of the buds before they bloom – the buds are a deep red color. It is the state tree of Oklahoma. George Washington, the first President of the United States, noted the tree’s beauty in his diary and planted them along the paths leading to his mansion at Mount Vernon.
