Reverend Samuel Kirkland was missionary to the Oneidas and played a large role in persuading them to join the cause for American independence. Although he was assigned to the fort to oversee Oneida scouting missions and report to Congress, he was often away to carry out his assignments. When he was in the area, the garrison at Fort Stanwix welcomed him with a day of fasting, prayer, and thanksgiving. This room is set up to illustrate how little he might have traveled with, bringing only the essential items he would need for his ministry and personal care.
