Devil's Club

S’áxt’ is the ginseng of the north woods. Tlingit harvest the roots and inner bark to make teas, tonics, and salves. They are used to treat everything from the common cold to cancer. The plant’s berries ripen into a bright red cluster and are relished in the early autumn by bears and thrushes.
