Quick Facts
Prior to the arrival of European settlers in the region, Catoctin Mountain Park was used by American Indians for quarrying rhyolite to create stone tools. Rhyolite outcrops are common on the western side of the park and the rocks were ideal to knap into spear points and arrowheads.
