Cellular Signal, Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

The Cornfield Mound is believed to have originally been a ceremonial cornfield. Later the mound was built over the field. During the excavation of the mound, archaeologists discovered charred corncobs and a layer of rolling topsoil in parallel rows under the mound. The parallel rows indicated a cultivated field used by the Mississippians; who not only grew corn, but also beans, squash, sunflowers, and tobacco in fields closer to the river.
