Corinth Tour #3, Stop #1 - 11th Ohio Battery
This Battery was organized October 27, 1861, under Captain A.G.A. Constable, who soon resigned and was succeeded by Captain Frank C. Sands. It rendezvoused at the St. Louis Arsenal and operated in Missouri under Fremont, and under Pope at New Madrid and Island No.10. After the battle of Shiloh it moved upon Corinth.
On September 18, 1862, the 105 soldiers of the 11th Ohio Battery under the command of Lieutenant Cyrus Sears, was ordered to move from Jacinto to Iuka, Mississippi where they would engage with Major General Sterling Price and his Confederate Army of the West. At approximately 5:00 pm Lieutenant Sears was ordered to "form battery" astride the Jacinto Road and "await further orders."
