Colbert Ferry picnic area is on the banks of the Tennessee River, north of HWY 72 in Alabama. It is on the end of the road to the boat dock, so it's off the beaten path. There is plenty of room to stretch your legs and toss a ball. It's a great place to birdwatch and fish.
Check out our Fishing page to see if you are elegible to fish.
This is Alabama Birding Trail stop #12. Search the trees and listen for red-headed and other woodpeckers, white-breasted nuthatches, cliff and barn swallows. Depending on the season, near the water, you may see double-crested cormorants, common loons, plenty of duck and Canada Geese. You may even see a bald eagle. As you clean up after an evening meal, you may hear screech owls, and barred owls.
