Harry S Truman had his first paying job here at J.H. Clinton’s Drugstore when he was 14. On weekday mornings, he came in at 6:30 am to sweep, mop, dust, and wipe off the counters. He completed all this work before 7 am when he had to be at school. On Saturday and Sunday, he worked from 4-10pm.
After his first week he earned 3 silver dollars. With his earnings, he bought a present for his mother and tried to give what money was left to his father. Harry Truman worked there for 3 months until his father told him it was time to quit and focus on his studies.
