Kóox
Chocolate Lily

The aroma of the chocolate-colored flowers of Kóox attract flies as pollinators but repels humans. The Huna Tlingit harvest the plant’s bulb—which looks like a cluster of white rice—in the spring. Also called “Indian rice,” it is cooked and eaten with wild rhubarb and other berries to balance its bitter taste.
