Built around 1800, this home was the property of Judge John Martin, a Chief Justice of the Cherokee Supreme Court, prior to removal. In 1836, after his property was taken via the Cherokee Land Lottery and sold to the Farish Carter family. Judge Martin and his family, his two wives and thier children, emigrated west.
Carter's Quarters is on the National Register of Historic Places in Georgia, the home is a private residence located across from the historic marker for Fort Gilmer.
