If you would like to hike across some of the hardened lava flows that erupted from Capulin Volcano, two unpaved trails leave from the picnic area. The Lava Flow Trail is a one mile loop that crosses two of the four lava flows that Capulin Volcano produced. The Boca Trail is a two mile loop that goes past two collapsed lava tubes and other lava features.
