The arch of tabby cabins at Kingsley Plantation is a rare arrangement of homes built by and for enslaved people out of an oyster shell concrete like material called tabby. These buildings held families and this arch a community of people forcibly brought together, who often came together, to celebrate holidays, assist with births, and bury the dead.  The arrangement of the cabins, rather than in rows typical of an English village, is more like the arrangement of villages in west Africa.
