Historically this space was divided into two rooms to serve at the living quarters for the “father steward”. He was the priest serving as manager of the Russian Bishop’s House. This space was later transformed into apartments in the 1930’s.
Here you can explore the construction of not only the Bishop’s House but also Russian America. See both original and replicas of objects found during archeology projects. There are photos of old wallpaper that was found in the house. Also, a replica piece of Devil’s Club a plant Tlingits use to protect buildings.
