Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

Each morning a procession from the village filed past the gates to till the fields outside the town walls, the European way of life unchanged since medieval times.

Broad Street, which stretches to the river, is flanked by pecan and live oak trees. Historically, Broad Street was lined with orange trees planted by settlers, since the Trustees imagined Georgia as a Mediterranean-like port. Walk on the grass down Broad Street towards the fort.
