Quick Facts

Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

The Blue Ridge Heritage Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to build monuments to honor the people who were displaced by the creation of Shenandoah National Park. Eight counties from which mountain residents were relocated have monuments: Madison, Page, Rockingham, Greene, Rappahannock, Albemarle, Warren, and Augusta. Most of the monument sites include exhibits about the families. We invite you to visit these gateway communities and the beautiful monuments and learn about the people who sacrificed their homes for the establishment of Shenandoah. You can also learn more about this story at Byrd Visitor Center (mile 51).

The Augusta County Blue Ridge Heritage Project Monument is located at Grand Caverns Park, 5 Grand Caverns Rd., Grottoes, VA 24441

The monument, which is under construction in 2024, will be located adjacent to ‘The Lodge’, the stone building that houses the gift shop to the caverns. Restrooms are available in this building and at other nearby locations in the park.
