Mother Marianne Cope managed Bishop Home which housed young girls and older single women. Centrally located in the settlement, the home historically contained as many as 19 structures, including a chapel, convent, infirmary, cottages, dining room, kitchen, dormitory, heating plant, and laundry. Mother Marianne ran the home until her death in 1918. The Catholic Church declared her a saint in 2012.

The property is still a home today for the Sisters of St. Francis, Mother Marianne’s religious community, who continue to provide for and uplift the Kalaupapa Community. Both the Sisters and the National Park Service maintain the Bishop Home property.
