Peter Brown - Soldier and Son

Peter Brown first arrived here on Breed’s Hill in the middle of the night of June 16, 1775. With orders to dig a fortification in Charlestown, his unit quietly marched from the vicinity of Harvard College, in Cambridge, to this location. After hours of digging in the dark, the sun slowly rose to expose their position in the middle of an open field. British cannon soon opened fire on Brown and his comrades.

Awaiting the inevitable arrival of attacking British soldiers, Brown looked back toward Cambridge in hope of reinforcements.
