John Waller - British Marine

Lieutenant John Waller set sail with his unit in March 1775, to respond to the growing political crisis in Boston. On the morning of June 17, 1775, he roused his men. They assembled on the Boston waterfront, waiting for boats to ferry them to Charlestown.

When they arrived on shore, regular British Army units were already engaged with the New England militia in heavy fighting. Focused on climbing this hill, Waller struggled to keep his men together under heavy fire. Against all odds, they reached the redoubt’s walls and charged over the top.
