George Bent remembered a "visitor" room here, while an 1849 traveler mentioned several "...rooms neatly fitted up (with) maps, books, & lounges." Candidates for occupation could have included the two younger Bent brothers George and Robert, and Marcellin St. Vrain. The room is furnished to represent William Bent's business office.
This room is heated by an "H" fireplace in the center of its west wall. The room contains a clock sitting above the fireplace, a painted wooden chest, folding chairs, a crate of lemon syrup, and a couple of printed Philadelphia, PA news items. A mica-type window allows light from the south alley. On a wall hangs a large painted elk hide from Wolf Coming Out, called a winter count, contains a Cheyenne picture history. The paintings depict events like a giant meteor shower during the 1830's called "the nights the stars fell", the murder of Charles Bent, and outbreaks of measels and whooping cough which ravaged the Southern Cheyennes.
