The outstanding feature in this room was a well shaft originally 9.75 ft. deep with pump remains, both unquestionably of the Bent period. The small well pit 6 ft. x 6.2 ft. was plank lined with square corner uprights, and contained six steps leading to the well. Articles recovered from the lowest part of the shaft were waterlogged, while those from higher levels were severely charred.
Susan Magoffin wrote the fort had a well, with "fine water," George Gibson found the water to be "very good," while Ceran St. Vrain thought the fort's well had "excellent" water.
