Shákw
Beach Strawberry

Shákw grows along coastal beaches from southeast Alaska to the Aleutian Islands. A favorite of the Huna Tlingit and rich in vitamin C, it’s also prized by birds, bears, voles, and red squirrels. It pioneers new ground by sending bright red runners across open terrain. Residents gather this berry to make pies and jams.
