Barracks No. 2 was used exclusively to house enlisted men, and all three rooms held as many as 20 men each. During the War of 1812 the building was only one story tall, however a second story was added in the 1830s.

Today the first floor of the barracks is open to the public and serves several different purposes. The room on the left features a repleca doctor's office made to appear in the World War I era of the fort's history when the site was used as a hospital, and the exhibit is only open when staffing allows. The middle room is an archeology room where several items are on display that have been found over time in the park. And on the right side of the building there are public restrooms available.
