Parking - Auto, Scenic View/Photo Spot
Season: Summer Only (June - September)
Backbone Ridge is located along Stevens Canyon Road, which is open to vehicles during the summer season only, typically June-September.
Backbone Ridge divides Stevens Canyon from the Ohanapecosh River Valley. A large pullout along Stevens Canyon Road at the highpoint of the ridge provides views of Mount Rainier looking northwest. The pullout is also on the southern border of Mount Rainier National Park and overlooks the Tatoosh Wilderness to the southwest. A sidewalk borders the pullout with some picnic tables in summer for those looking for a quieter lunch spot. The closest restroom facilities are located at Box Canyon, approximately 4.5 miles west along Stevens Canyon Road, or at the Grove of the Patriarchs trailhead, approximately 5.6 miles east along Stevens Canyon Road.
