On the deck of Wildwood Stables, a wayside exhibit entitled "Over the Mountain, Through the Woods" overlooks a view of a large corral bordered by a wooden rail fence. More fences separate the corral into smaller sections. A tree-covered slope forms a backdrop.
The exhibit's title appears in a clear blue sky over a view of a roofless carriage with spoked wheels, drawn by two horses. A dozen people ride inside as it travels along a carriage road overlooking a panoramic view of Frenchman Bay and the Atlantic Ocean from Day Mountain.
Introductory text reads: "Contemplate Acadia's beauty by taking a carriage ride to the top of Day Mountain or through the forests to Jordan Pond House. Traveling in a horse-drawn carriage is just as much about the journey as it is about the destination. At this gentle pace everything seems clearer, more pronounced — the mixture of hardwood and evergreen trees, moss-covered rocks and bridges, delicate ferns and gurgling brooks."
An inset shows a historic photograph of a horse-drawn carriage with four passengers. "Small carriages are still used on Acadia's carriage roads by private carriage owners. Private charters may be reserved at Wildwood Stables."
