This natural rock formation is made even more special in that it is the only one in the park you can hike through. The beautiful stone steps may look like they were built by the CCC in the 1930s, but in fact they were built by the park's dedicated trail crew in 2015 and 2016. This 2.8-mile roundtrip hike along Alum Cave Trail will not disappoint.
How to Get There
- Hike 1.4 miles (2.3 km) one-way from Alum Cave Trailhead.
- Limited parking is located at the trailhead on Newfound Gap Road (US 441).
- Parking is often full—please prepare a back-up plan and consider using a shuttle.
