Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Information

Built-in the early 1800s, these small buildings were critical to the plantation’s operation. The kitchen and laundry were separate from the main home to reinforce the relationship between enslaved people and the Eppes family. The food being prepared here came from the plantation and the nearby rivers. Here enslaved women kept the fire going, prepared meals for the Eppes family and for the enslaved population at Appomattox Plantation. In the laundry room, enslaved women worked to wash napkins, linens, and clothing by hand.
