Included in the National Register for Historic Places, the Allenbrook house was originally built between 1851 and 1856 for James R. King, his wife Francis, and his four children. Starting in 1857, King ran Ivy Mill about 1,000 ft away at the confluence of Big Creek and the Chattahoochee River. The mill produced a cotton-wool blended fabric known as “Roswell Gray” for the confederate army until 1864 when the Union army arrived in Roswell.

The Allenbrook house, originally had four rooms and a loft, was remodeled several times by various owners. The most significant changes to the house were by Barnett Allen Bell who purchased the property in 1932 and redesigned the front porch. Allenbrook was acquired by the National Park Service in 1978.
