Upon purchasing an expensive carriage, Charles Francis Adams needed a place to store it. The son and grandson of U.S. Presidents, Charles Francis Adams married a wealthy woman, Abigail Brooks, which afforded him extra comforts unavailable to his parents and grandparents. They built this Carriage House in 1873, which not only housed the carriage and horses but also the coachman and family telephone.

The Carriage House is open seasonally. If the barn doors are open, feel free to walk in and explore the Carriage Room. A family tree inside helps to explain the four generations of the Adams Family that called Peace field home.

Adams National Historical Park conducts curriculum based education programming in the Carriage Room. If you are an educator, visit Adams National Historical Park - Education for information on field trips and how to book one.
