Andrew Murray Young was a New York banker who purchased a summer cottage, Tanglewold, in Bar Harbor in 1917. He was a member of the Bar Harbor Village Improvement Association’s Roads and Paths Committee.

After his death, his wife Marie funded a memorial path along with an endowment for trail maintenance for him in the south gorge between Cadillac and Dorr Mountains and his plaque was installed there in 1926.

The memorial plaque is near the south end of the A. Murray Young Path. The inscription reads as follows:

WHO LOVED THIS ISLAND

WHERE GOD HAS GIVEN

OF HIS BEAUTY WITH A

LAVISH HAND
