Charles Fromholz was born in 1844. He immigrated to the United States in 1871 and settled in Red Jacket where he worked as a barber. He also invested in real estate, including this property. This building was probably built after his death in 1901, by his estate. In 1884, this site was occupied by a wood-frame building with two storefronts. It was occupied by a variety of businesses, including a barber, a printshop, a dry goods and clothing store, a grocery store, a fruit store, a saloon, and a jewelry store. The existing building was built sometime between 1900 and 1908. In 1917, J C Penny opened a store here, before they moved to the Ruppe Department Store building in 1923. Then the McLogan & Pearce Music Company was here until it was purchased by the Weidelmann family in 1930, and moved to the Murphy Block. In the β€˜30s and β€˜40s, Harter Brothers Pool Room was located here. It is said that the mob boss of the Copper Country ran operations from a booth here, during the hey-day of the mafia in this area. By 1948 the bar here was known as The 315 Club. It became the UP Pub in 1978.
