Italian immigrant James Lisa left his mark on Calumet with this building. It was built between 1888 and 1900, replacing a one- and one-half story family home. Lisa served as a consular agent for the Kingdom of Italy, helping fellow Italians immigrate to the U.S. by providing not only diplomatic services but also help with transportation as a steamship agent. Through the years, the Lisa Block has housed various businesses, including a general store, saloon, art studio, and appliance store.
