The Murphy Block was built sometime around 1880. It first housed a saloon, but by 1888 it was leased by the government to serve as the Calumet Post Office. Beginning in 1893, the building housed a series of businesses including a grocery store, a saloon, a clothing store, and a Salvation Army barracks. At that time, the large display windows were removed, and a glass panel façade was installed. In 1968, the building's use changed again, this time serving as a warehouse for the neighboring ski and bike shop. The storefront windows have since been restored to their 1910s appearance.
