The 201 6th street location was the site of the Ryan Livery, built by Edward J. Ryan sometime before 1888; Ryan also built the Ryan Block further north on 6th Street in 1898. The Livery was destroyed by fire in 1931 and was replaced by the Calumet Post Office. The Post Office was constructed as part of the Works Project Administration's federal building program during the Great Depression. Joseph A. Lasker's 1941 mural Copper Mining in Calumet hangs in the public lobby.
