1st US Sharpshooters at the Deep Cut

Prior to the main federal assault at the Deep Cut, members of the 1st United States Sharpshooters moved into the Dogan pasture to clear out their Confederate counterparts. Their advance into the field was met both with short-range rifle fire and long range artillery fire from Confederate cannons posted nearly a mile to the west on the Brawner Farm.
