This 11-room limestone mansion was created in 1881 by rancher Stephen F. Jones who settled in Chase County, Kansas in 1878. It is one of several buildings in the ranch complex that tell the story of the end of the Open Range Era to the time of large ranching enclosed holding operations.
The Spring Hill Farm and Stock Ranch house was state of the art in 1881, built in the Second Empire style for $25,000. "Twenty men working round the clock" completed the house after a year. Ranger tours are available with reservation. Self-guided tours are available by pamphlet or phone.
