140th New York Infantry Regiment Monument
The 140th New York Infantry Regiment was commanded at the battle of Gettysburg by Col. Patrick Henry O’Rorke. While marching to support Sickles' Third Corps the 140th New York was intercepted by Gen. Gouverneur Warren. Warren, seeking troops to defend the hill, found O’Rorke and New Yorkers. “Paddy, give me a regiment!” Warren yelled over the growing sounds of the battle. O’Rorke was quick to oblige and moved his regiment into position on Little Round Top to help defend the Union line. The monument marks the spot where O'Rorke was killed on July 2 during the struggle for Little Round Top.
