Welcome to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. For a safe and enjoyable trip, please stay on the gravel path, with the exception of the north and south garden areas. Poison ivy is a common refuge plant with leaves that are always in clusters of three. Look both high and low for poison ivy vines, as they can entwine around trees, or grow like a big shrub. The entire plant-leaves, trunks and roots-can make you itch. Also, look out for dog and deer ticks, which can be present year round. If you have any questions, stop by the Visitor Center desk where a ranger or volunteer can assist you.
