Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

Located along the north edge of the Potomac River at the west end of the Georgetown Waterfront Park in Washington, DC. is the Waterfront Park: Stone marker.

The marker is a shiny, black slab of granite laid on the ground and risen at the back about two feet at its right back corner, and about six inches at its left corner. The Potomac River is directly on front of you and Theodore Roosevelt Island sits across the river. The Washington Monument and Kennedy Center are to the south.

The slab features etchings of images along its surface. Furthest left is a picture of a four-story brick building with PIONEER MILLS written below the fourth-floor windows. It sits along a riverbank and a canal boat can be seen floating by in the foreground. To the right is a very faded image that appears to show about ten men with horses standing along a riverbank under trees. Further right is another faded image. This one appears to show canal boats lined up end-to-end sitting in a canal way. Another image to the right is also badly faded. Buildings with smokestacks can be seen in the top right corner. One last image is on the far-right side but can barely be seen. A series of horizontal, wavy lines are etched beneath all four images across the bottom of the granite slab.
