The US Navy Beach Jumpers-an elite group of enlisted men and officers-were sent to the amphibious training base located on Ocracoke Island between 1943 and 1944. During this time period, residents were not allowed on the beaches due to the deception trainings taking place just off-shore. Once trained, the US Navy Beach Jumpers were deployed to aide in the war taking place in the Pacific.
