Quick Facts

Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Tactile Exhibit

From the forest floor to the treetops, this coastal woodland is full of activity. Beneath the live oaks, magnolias, and saw palmettos, frogs, skinks, snakes, and salamanders forage for bugs and beetles in the leaf litter and on downed trees. Armadillos, skunks, and raccoons shuffle along feeding on ants, worms, spiders, and berries. Squirrels dart here and there gathering acorns and nuts to feed their young high up in the oak and hickory trees. Vireos, warblers, and woodpeckers fill the air with calls and songs.
